Founder Story
Phoenix Rising Shelter was founded from both professional experience and lived understanding.
For over eight years, I worked on the front lines supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in multiple roles, including Shelter Advocate, Sexual Assault Advocate, and Sheltering & Housing Assistant Supervisor. I also spent three years working in a homeless shelter, supporting individuals and families facing crisis and housing instability. Through this work, I stood beside survivors in some of the most difficult moments of their lives—helping them safety plan, find resources, and begin again.
But my connection to this work is not only professional—it is personal.
I am a survivor of domestic violence.
There was a time in my life when I had to rebuild on my own, navigating fear, uncertainty, and the overwhelming question of what comes next. I understand what it feels like to start over with limited support, and I know the strength it takes to keep moving forward even when the path is unclear.
That experience didn’t break me—it shaped me.
